What are Dynamic Groups in OCI?

Dynamic Groups in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure are defined as collections of resources that are created based on matching rules. This means that instead of manually managing which resources belong to a group, Dynamic Groups automatically include resources that fulfill defined criteria, such as specific tags or attributes. This feature streamlines the management of cloud resources by automatically adjusting the membership of the groups as resources are created or modified.

For instance, if an organization wants to group all compute instances that have a specific tag, a Dynamic Group can be set up to capture any instance with that tag dynamically, without having to manually update the group each time a new instance is created or an existing one is modified. This capability helps organizations more easily manage permissions and policies at scale, as they can ensure that the right resources are always included in their security and management protocols based on the latest configurations.

This concept differs from static groups, which are created and managed manually and do not automatically adjust based on resource attributes.
